Faustuss Blog 2 (14/06/06)

Hello, and welcome to the second update on Faustuss International's Kenya-Uganda extravaganza!

Things are going well here. We have managed to source all of the necessary equipment and software for editing the documentary and plan to begin editing proper early next week. In the meantime, we have been working at mixing/mastering some of the audio recordings we made during the expedition, and it looks like there will be some really exciting material to include both in the film and on the CD albums.

Our Kenyan counterparts are being equally industrious as plans for cultural festivals in different parts of Kenya progress. These festivals will provide further exposure for the artists we have worked with, and for new talent. The latest idea is for a large festival in Kibera (the slum that is home to 60% of Nairobi's population). It is proposed that the festival should combine a diverse cultural showcase with a demonstration against the corruption and injustice that Kiberians face on a day to day basis. We will be posting further information on the Faustuss website shortly.

In the meantime, I have attached the first instalment of Ricky Russell's travel journal. He managed to find time to keep a diary of events during the expedition, and as our sponsors we are giving you the first glimpse. It should be an interesting read given that this was Ricky's first experience travelling in East Africa, so it was as new to him as it will be to most of you! This fortnight's extract details our first day in Mombasa, so that you can read about and see exactly what we got up to. Please enjoy the read!

Thanks again for your continued support. We are currently raising money to cover out budget by participating in weekly car-boot sales. If any of those of you who are local to us (Hampshire/Dorset, UK) have any unwanted items of ineterst, please let us know. We would be happy to collect in order to help us meet our budget.

We will be putting together a compilation album featuring all of the groups who came with us. This will be the CD that we send out to those sponsors who are eligible for one CD. We are anticipating completion of the boxed set of CDs, and of the DVD in around six months. During this time, you will receive regular updates on our progress, and how our projects in Kenya and the UK are moving forward.

Despite all your generous support, we are still £2500 short of covering our full budget for the expedition. We are continuing to raise funds to cover the remainder, so we are open to suggestions and ideas about ways that we may achieve this. If you have any thoughts, please don't hesitate to contact us and let us know!
