Faustuss Blog 1 (14/06/06)

Hello, and welcome to the first update on Faustuss International's Kenya-Uganda extravaganza!

Firstly, we would like to thank you all for your generous support. It may sound like a cliche but - without your support none of it could have happened. As it turned out - it did happen, and it was a roaring success!

1) Recorded 25-30 hours of footage, including interviews with the musicians, live performances, and general footage of the expedition on the road. The aim of the documentary is to paint a picture of real life in different communities across Kenya, with an emphasis on the importance of Kenya's rich, diverse, and fast disappearing cultures.

2) Created a cultural network between musicians across Kenya. This was the first time these groups had met, and during the trip they became good friends. In the future we hope that these groups can work together towards the goal of promoting and preserving their cultures.

3) Reaffirmed ties with artists and organisations in Kenya and Uganda with a view to working more closely together in the future.

4) Made new ties with organisations and individuals who visited the festival, creating the potential for future events that could take some of the artists to new locations worldwide in order to perform and promote our cause.

5) Visited sites for proposed cultural centres to which Faustuss is contributing in order to fulfil our commitment - to ensure that both the musicians and their local communities benefit from the sale of their music.

To give you an idea about jut how much of a difference you made, here are some figures:

Donations of...
£1.00 paid for at least one square meal during the journey.
£2.00 paid for one person's accommodation for one night during the journey.
£5.00 paid for one person to travel from Mombasa to Nairobi.
£10.00 paid for one person to gain a temporary visa for Uganda - enabling them to reach the festival.
£25.00 paid one musician for his/her performance at the Amakula film festival.
£50.00 paid for one night's accommodation for the entire group of 41 people upon arrival at budget accommodation in Kampala.
£100.00 paid a group of four musicians for their spectacular performances at the Amakula film festival.
£ 200.00 paid for the entire group of forty-one people to eat and sleep for one night.

THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!

We will be putting together a compilation album featuring all of the groups who came with us. This will be the CD that we send out to those sponsors who are eligible for one CD. We are anticipating completion of the boxed set of CDs, and of the DVD in around six months. During this time, you will receive regular updates on our progress, and how our projects in Kenya and the UK are moving forward.

Despite all your generous support, we are still £2500 short of covering our full budget for the expedition. We are continuing to raise funds to cover the remainder, so we are open to suggestions and ideas about ways that we may achieve this. If you have any thoughts, please don't hesitate to contact us and let us know!
